Buying your first Guitar – Choosing the right one for you.

Hello I am writing this post for those of you that want to buy your first Guitar. Choosing the right Guitar can be difficult but I am going to try to make it easy for you here. There are many Guitars out there to choose from so I can see that it is difficult to choose the right one for you. In the following topics I hope to shed some light on the process of choosing the right one that fits you.

Acoustic or Electric.

I believe it is personal preference whether you choose an acoustic guitar or an electric guitar. With an acoustic guitar you can pick it up and play it at any time or anywhere because all you need to do is pick it up and start playing any time you want, The electric guitar is a little more involved because you will need an amplifier in order to play it. That involves some setup and it you need to connect the cords and such before you begin playing. You get a better range of sounds with an electric depending on the amplifier you choose. With an acoustic guitar you can take it with you where ever you go by just putting it in the case and it is ready to travel. With an electric guitar you will need to take all the accessories like the amp and the cords with you. My personal choice is the acoustic guitar for some of the reasons that I have described above. But whichever you choose I hope you will enjoy it as I have over the past 30 years.

Choosing the right Guitar.

This can be a difficult thing to do. There are many types to choose from. There are also many sizes and styles to choose from. You can get a full body acoustic guitar where the neck is attached at the 12th fret or one with a cutout where you can reach the higher frets. With the electric guitar it is more the weight of the guitar that is most bothersome as you will probably have it on a strap over your shoulder while playing and it can get quite heavy after playing it for a while. An acoustic guitar is just as comfortable if you play it sitting or standing and most are a lot lighter that their electric counterpart. The electric guitar can be easier to play for the beginner because it takes less pressure from your fingers to produce a clean sound from the strings. But if the action on an acoustic guitar is low enough it can be just as easy to play. You will need to find one that fits your body well one that is the right size and has good balance. You don’t want a guitar where the neck is heavier than the body or it will not say in the position you are comfortable playing in. So good balance is very important to be able to play with ease.

What to pay.

Price is always a concern when starting out on the guitar. You don’t want to go out and spend thousands of dollars on your first guitar because you may not like playing and then you may feel that you have wasted your money. Don’t worry can always sell it if that turns out to be the case. I recommend spending between $300 and $500 dollars on a good beginner guitar. You can easily find a good one for that price point, Then when you get better at playing go out and spend the big bucks for a really nice guitar.

Where to get your Guitar.

There are the big stores the small shops and online stores as well. So Let’s break it down. The big stores will have a larger selection of guitars but you may not get that personal touch. At the small shops but you may get a more personalized experience but there is not as much selection. Online stores are taking off right now there is a lot more selection and they will review that guitars that they are selling to give you an idea as to how they play and how the fit your body style. I would suggest you go into one of the big stores and play a few guitars find the one you like then see if it is available online for a cheaper price.

Wrap up.

As said in the beginning there are a lot of things to consider when buying a guitar but take your time and get the right one for you. It is always going to come down to personal preference and to look and feel of the guitar you ultimately purchase. I hope you found this article helpful and informative. My goal was to give a little insight into the process and I hope that I have achieved that for you.
